New to Luminar Mobile? This guide helps you get started quickly and start editing like a pro on your iPhone or iPad.
Welcome to the Knowledge Lab! We are thrilled to have you join us in this dynamic learning environment. Let's embark on this journey of discovery together!
Review the necessary system specifications for Luminar Mobile to run smoothly on iPhone, ensuring compatibility with your device’s capabilities.
Luminar Mobile requires IOS 17 to run.
The amount of Random Access Memory (RAM) on your device plays a crucial role in determining the size of images you can edit comfortably. RAM acts as a temporary workspace for your device, and having more RAM allows you to handle larger and more complex images without encountering performance issues.
Supported RAM capacities:
16GB
-
8000px
The Photo Gallery is your starting point in Luminar. It’s where all the images stored on your device come together — clear, organized, and ready to edit.
When you open the app, you land here. It displays all the photos you’ve taken with your phone or imported from other sources. You can swipe through your images or explore specific albums. And if you’ve connected your cloud apps — like Google Photos — you’ll see those images, too.
Everything is designed to move quickly. Tap a photo once, and it opens directly in the Luminar editor. No extra steps. No waiting.
Use the Photo Gallery to:
Instantly access the images you want to edit
View your mobile albums
Connect to cloud-based media apps like Google Photos
Jump directly into the editing workflow with a single tap
If you're working with photos stored outside your gallery — downloads, SD cards, or cloud drives — the File Manager is where to go.
Luminar’s File Manager mirrors Android’s native file system. That means you can browse through folders on your device, just like you would in the default Files app. It also supports access to Google Drive and other connected cloud storage apps, so you can pull in images from almost anywhere.
To open the File Manager, tap the folder icon or use the menu. Once you’re inside, use the top navigation bar to jump between file locations. Find the photo you need, tap it, and Luminar loads it right into the editor.
This is ideal for:
Managing images in custom folders or storage devices
Accessing edited exports from other apps
Editing high-resolution photos saved to cloud storage
Sometimes, the moment is right in front of you. With Luminar’s Take a Photo feature, you can capture and edit in one seamless flow.
Tap the camera icon to launch your phone’s native camera app. Use all your usual camera tools — flash, zoom, timer, focus modes—and snap your shot.
As soon as you take the photo, Luminar opens it automatically in the editing interface. There are no import steps or manual transfers.
This is the fastest way to:
Capture spontaneous moments.
Ensure your photo is fresh, sharp, and high-quality.
Jump straight into the creative process while the moment is still fresh.
Also, in Luminar Mobile, you can review your Spaces, published via Luminar Neo. The link in the web browser will open instantly so that you can quickly access the public spaces. Click on the 🌐 symbol to expand the list of your Spaces.
Presets allow you to apply quick edits to your photo, receiving amazing results in seconds.
The Presets icon is located in the bottom menu bar, and it looks like two overlapping squares. When you click on it, it will open the presets tab for you with the list of all presets available in Luminar Mobile. Presets are divided by topic, such as Landscape, Portrait, Travel, etc.
Scroll the list and click on the preset to apply it. When the preset is applied, you’ll see a scrolling wheel with numbers that allow you to set the value of preset strength.
LUTs apply a complete, professional-grade look to your image with one tap. They’re perfect for speeding up your workflow or achieving a specific visual style consistently.
Browse LUTs – Swipe through available looks to preview how they affect your photo.
One-Tap Apply: Tap a preset to instantly apply the style to your image. Then, you can continue fine-tuning with other tools.
How to Use: Tap the filmstrip icon to open the Presets panel. Browse through the available styles and tap one to apply it. Use the Amount slider to adjust the intensity of the preset effect.
When to Use: Great for stylizing your photo, matching a brand aesthetic, or starting with a strong visual direction.
The Erase Tool allows you to remove unwanted objects, blemishes, or distractions from your photo using AI-powered content-aware fill.
Brush Size – Adjust the brush diameter by sliding left (smaller) or right (larger).
Undo/Redo – Use the back arrow to undo a stroke or the forward arrow to redo it.
Sky Replacement lets you swap out a dull or overexposed sky with a more dramatic one — blue skies, sunsets, storms, and more. Luminar detects the sky automatically and blends in a new one using AI.
Key points of this tool:
Sky Selection – Choose from built-in skies.
AI Detection – Automatically identifies the horizon and sky edges.

Lighting Match – Adjusts the scene’s lighting to match the new sky for realism.
Reflections (when available) – Simulates sky reflections in water or glass.
How to Use: Tap the sky icon, select a sky from the library, and Luminar will automatically blend it into your photo with adjusted lighting and edge transitions.
When to Use: Ideal for travel and outdoor photography, especially when weather conditions didn’t cooperate or you want a more eye-catching backdrop.
Click on a heart symbol 💛 under the selected sky to mark it as a favourite. The favourite skies will be displayed at the beginning of the list.
Click Adjust at the top of the selected sky in the scrollable panel to refine the position of the new sky. Hold and drag the slider to move the sky horizontally or vertically. To make more precise corrections of the position, tap the dots around the circle to move the sky accordingly.
Scroll the panel to the right to access additional controls:
Brightness - adjust how bright or dark the sky appears.
Warmth - make the sky cooler or warmer in tone.
Defocus - slightly blur the sky for a more natural depth effect.
To adjust the masking of your sky, use the following sliders:
Global - controls the overall strength of the sky mask.
Close gaps - fills in small unmasked areas, especially around fine edges.
Fix details - improves blending around trees, buildings, and other complex details.
To add your custom sky, click on the cloud with a plus on the left side of the list. Your gallery will open. Navigate to the file that contains the sky you want to use in the photo. Click on the trash bin to delete the sky.

Cropping is more than trimming—it’s about composition. The Crop Tool helps you reframe your image to better focus on your subject, fit social media formats, or improve visual balance.
Rotate – Tap the rotate icon to spin the image clockwise by 90°.
Flip Vertically or Horizontally – Use the respective flip icons to mirror your photo in either direction.
Crop Presets – Choose from a list of aspect ratios:
Original – Maintain the current ratio.
Freeform – Drag corners to any dimension.
Square – 1:1 ratio for classic balance.
Instagram/Facebook – Optimized for posts and stories.
Checkmark – Apply your crop.
X Icon – Cancel cropping without applying.
How to Use: Tap the Crop icon, choose a preset or freeform, and adjust using the drag handles. Tap the checkmark when you’re satisfied.
When to Use: Useful for improving framing, fitting platform-specific dimensions, or removing distracting edges.
The Top Toolbar sits at the upper edge of the Edit screen and is always accessible while you're editing. It contains five essential icons that help you navigate, personalize, and finalize your editing experience.
Tap the back arrow to exit the Edit screen and return to your Photo Gallery or File Manager. Your work is non-destructive, so changes are saved automatically unless you explicitly discard them. Use this to switch images, return to browsing, or exit editing at any time.
Tap the undo arrow to remove your last change, or the redo arrow to reapply it. These tools help you quickly step backward or forward through your edits without losing progress.
This is your app settings and support center. Tap the three dots to open a menu with system-level options—ideal for customizing how Luminar responds to you and accessing helpful resources when needed.
This button opens the export panel (as covered in “Sharing Your Work”). It’s visible throughout editing, so you can share your final image the moment it’s ready.

This quick gesture helps you see exactly how far you’ve come — perfect for checking subtle or significant changes.
