# Skies

Explore a variety of presets to quickly apply different styles and looks to your photos in Luminar for Desktop.

**Skies** lets you replace the sky in your photo and create a new atmosphere in just a few clicks. It detects the existing sky and blends the selected replacement into the scene. After choosing a sky, you can refine its position, appearance, and blending to better match your photo.

#### How to Use

Select **Skies** from the right-side panel and choose a replacement sky from the available options. Browse the categories to explore different styles, or select **All** to view the full collection. Once you choose a sky, it is automatically placed and blended into the photo.

To use your own sky, open **Library** and select the **+** tile to add a custom sky.

You can then use **Position**, **Edit Sky**, and **Adjust** to refine the result.

#### Position

Use **Position** to adjust the placement and orientation of the replacement sky.

* **Flip Horizontal.** Flips the replacement sky horizontally to change its direction within the scene.
* **Vertical.** Moves the sky up or down within the frame.
* **Horizontal.** Moves the sky left or right to adjust its placement.

#### Edit Sky

Use **Edit Sky** to adjust the appearance of the replacement sky.

* **Brightness.** Lightens or darkens the sky.
* **Warmth.** Adjusts its color temperature for a cooler or warmer look.
* **Defocus.** Softens the sky by reducing its sharpness, helping it better match photos with a shallow depth of field.

#### Adjust

Use **Adjust** to refine how the replacement sky blends with the original scene.

* **Global.** Controls the overall blending of the replacement sky with the scene.
* **Close Gaps.** Helps fill small areas where the new sky may not have been fully applied, particularly around complex edges and fine details.
* **Fix Details.** Refines small imperfections along the transition between the replacement sky and the original scene.

#### When to Use

Skies is ideal when the original sky is flat, overexposed, distracting, or doesn’t match the atmosphere you want to create. It works especially well for landscapes, travel photos, architecture, and other outdoor scenes.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://support.skylum.com/luminar-for-web/how-to-use-luminar-for-web/skies.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
