# Bokeh AI

Learn how to apply realistic background blur to portraits using AI, simulating shallow depth of field effects.

**Bokeh AI** creates a natural-looking depth-of-field effect by keeping the main subject in focus while blurring the background. Use it to add depth, reduce background distractions, and draw more attention to your subject.

**How to Use:** Select Bokeh AI and adjust the **Blur** slider to control the strength of the background blur. Use **Focus Distance** to fine-tune which areas remain in focus, then choose a **Bokeh Pattern** to change the appearance of blurred light sources.

* **Blur.** Controls the intensity of the background blur. Increase the value for stronger subject separation and a more pronounced depth-of-field effect.
* **Focus Distance.** Adjusts the depth range that remains in focus, allowing you to shift the area of clarity closer to or farther from the viewer.
* **Bokeh Patterns.** Changes the shape of blurred light sources in the background. Choose from *Ring, Circle, Ellipse, Hexagon,* *Heart,* or *Star.*

**When to Use:** Ideal for portraits and other subject-focused photos where you want to soften a distracting background, create stronger separation, or simulate a shallow depth of field.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://support.skylum.com/luminar-for-web/how-to-use-luminar-for-web/editing-tools/portrait/bokeh-ai.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
